Day 4 : the beginning of 4 Cabellos

Ditched my original plan to cross over to the west coast. Persuaded by KC and Dave to continue riding with them on the East coast. Since it is tough to find touring cyclists who can go on my slow pace, and it is great to have company along the way. They have been telling me, how a flip of coin that led them to me. Must be Fate. Bid farewell to my warmshower host Omar in the morning and join my fatbikers for breakfast.

Ride along the coast. Coastal wind just blew us aside. 10 km out of Mersing, we lost Dave. We waited at the T junction for a hour until KC back tracked to search for him but to no avail. KC figured that he got lost, turning into Route 3. So we followed on route 3, hoping to catch up with him. Before Endau, another endless series of rolling hills. I had my first fall, well just tumble. Fall nicely into my backpack. No scratches.

Rain played us again. When I put on my rain gear, it stopped. Arrived at Endau, failing to find Dave, we gave up and had Bak Ku Teh, pork ribs soup. Search for WiFi to contact Dave. Finally, he messaged he is on his way to Rompin.

Finally 26 km of flat roads, I was able to get into my rhythm of pushing both legs and paddling. Best skating so far this journey. Finally able to maintain average speed above 16km/h

Soon arrived at Rompin, spotted a French touring cyclist as well. Thierry joined us. Now, 3 musketeers become The Four Horsemen or 4 Cabellos. Found Dave at Rompin Beach Resort.

Since met up with KC and Dave in Desaru, they are touring malaysia on Fatbike. Their speed are similar to mine, we decided to ride together. Dave is riding for a cause. He is riding for Bike 4 Alzheimer's disease.

Day 2 was triple combo for me, headwind, endless hills and Rough roads. I can deal with one or two combos, when all 3 comes, I am reduced to walking speed. Thank God, there is KC, he carried my backpack and at times towed me along with a makeshift rope.

At the same time, we had to deal with the rain. Whole journey was never flat, just endless rolling hills
75km at tenggeroh, found a homestay for 100 ringgit. It is good to travel with people , you get to share cost.

Day 3 Tenggeroh to Mersing
A short ride together with KC and Dave. But another 58km of endless hills and another day of pouring rain. At Jemaluang, 37km, I lost steam, and KC volunteer to carry my backpack on his fatbike. I don't know what to do if I haven't met them.

Lunch at Jemaluang, had Wanton mee. Carried on another 21km to Mersing to stay with my Warmshower host Mr Omar.

Day 1: The Beginning

Malaysia: Belungkor to Desaru

The beginning of World Tour
My parents drove me to Changi to send me off. Met a lot of my cyclists friends who cycled to Changi as their usual routine and happened to see me.

Waited for my 2 female friends who are supposed to join me in today ride to desaru. Janice came punctual as usual, Yvonne was her usual late. As I had to rush off to catch 9.30am ferry to Belungkor, my starting point, I had to say bye to Janice.

Joining me at ferry were my LDP friends, Arthur , John and PJ. They skated with me from Belungkor to Desaru.

Though it is 30km ride to Desaru, but it is filled with rolling hills and heavy traffic on a single lane.

Road 89 is quiet with little traffic. With rolling hills, in midst of hills is long gradual down slope, which u won't feel it speed up until u realise it is too late to reduce speed. And Arthur paid the price, he tried to foot brake but it was too fast. He tumbled and rolled. End up with few abrasion. Lucky there was no traffic.

Turned left to Route 92. It turned into nightmare. Heavy traffic with no shoulders. Walked along the side when traffic got jammed up cos of us.

Finally arrived at Desaru 4pm, then drizzle arrived as well. Had sumptuous meal with lobster thanks to John and Arthur and PJ. Original plan was to camp at Balau. Just as my Trio left to grab cab to catch 6pm ferry, I saw Fatbikers KC and his friend Dave riding into Desaru. Shared a hotel room with them to get a first night comfortable rest.
